I tried Plaine Products' Refillable Shampoo and This is How it Went

I have been using shampoo bars for maybe a year now, but I have seen a consistent trend from my followers: shampoo bars don't work for everybody. Manyyyy of you have told me that the shampoo bar simply isn't cutting it and that you hope there's another waste-free solution out there. Well, THERE IS. I found out about Plaine Products online and ohhh my I was in love instantly. Their products are toxin-free, palm oil-free, vegan, Non-GMO, cruelty-free, AND waste-free? Unreal.

Also two of my favorite people on the internet @taylor.pforwords and @meghanhughes both use this brand and adore it, so I just knew I couldn't go wrong. SO, I decided to try the brand myself so I can tell you guys what I think.

"Every piece of plastic that has ever been made still exists. Think about that. Then know that globally, we produce 300 million tons of plastic waste every year, 78 percent of which is NOT reclaimed or recycled. That’s a lot of plastic." (website)

Plaine Products was started by two sisters, Lindsey and Alison, who dreamed of a world with less waste. One of the sisters, Lindsey, lived in the Bahamas for 10 years where she saw the effects of plastic first hand. This mission runs so deep in their lives, which brings me so much joy because it runs deep in mine too. I love supporting companies that dream of a better world that starts with individual decisions.

This company blows me away by how mindful they are about their environmental impact. Plaine Products sends you their product in aluminum packaging. When you're running low on a product, order a refill (or you can get the subscription where refills will be sent automatically). The refill will be sent to your home in another aluminum bottle, and you can place your empty bottle in the same box to be shipped back to the company with a prepaid label that Plaine Products sent with the refill. Watch this video that explains the refill process perfectly!

I got the shampoo, conditioner, and face wash in a cardboard box with kraft tape, so all of the shipping material was compostable and recyclable. The product itself comes in 100% aluminum which comes with a plastic pump to insert into the bottles. The aluminum packaging is nice and durable, and I LOVE the way it looks in the shower (you know I love a good aesthetic).

I have been using Plaine Products' shampoo, conditioner, and face wash for over a month now and I will never go back. The shampoo is made of the finest, natural ingredients and makes my hair feel so soft. It took me so long to try the product simply because of its price, but since most of my zero waste items cost significantly less than its plastic counterpart, I decided to splurge on my shampoo and conditioner.

This isn't me trying to oversell the product or give you false claims- this is simply my experience. In the last month, I have had so many compliments on my hair. Several people have asked how my hair has grown so quickly and if I have switched shampoos. I NEVER HAVE PEOPLE ASK ABOUT MY HAIR. Like, I'm serious. My mom, Houston's mom, my friends, AND Houston have all said something. I'm in love with their shampoo and conditioner and will continue to use their products. I can't believe that their hair products have been so good for my hair and are ALSO waste-free. Plaine Products, you're the dream. Keep making top of the line hair products that are better for the planet!
