Sustainable Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again- another sustainable gift guide! As I’ve said before, it’s funny to me writing these because I’ve never been big on giving gifts. Houston and I have been together for 6 years and have only gotten each other gifts ONCE on Christmas. The thing is he’s a musician, so he loves buying gear and I love to travel, so our gift to each other every year is to just save for the things we really want to do- own guitars and buy plane tickets. BUT for our families, we do write detailed Christmas lists so we can help support the small, sustainable businesses that we love!

All of that being said, this is NOT a post trying to convince you to buy things you don’t need or to spend over your means. I’m a minimalist at heart and encourage you to give gifts that truly add value to others’ lives and if you do that, buy gifts that don’t go over your budget. I’m all for giving experiences, homemade gifts, plants, etc. And for when you give those store-bought gifts, here are some small, ethical, and sustainable companies that I LOVE. Okay, let’s get into it!

Bite

I’ve been a huge fan of Bite Toothpaste Bits for a long time now. This was actually the first thing I bought to live a more sustainable lifestyle! Bite for me started as a way to be a better steward of the earth, and now my love continues to grow for them because of the excellence that their product has and their new addition of nHAP (which is a fluoride alternative).

All of their flavors are amazing, but trust me, the berry flavor just hits different. Use my code IMPACTFORGOOD10 for 10% off!

Baggu

Anything from Baggu is a great gift for its pricepoint but also the brand is so innovative and makes all of their products from 100% recycled plastic. From reusable bags to slippers to fanny packs, I love Baggu and the creative products they have!

Cocokind

Quarantine has made me fall in love with skincare, and Cocokind is one of my absolute favorites. First off I’ve worked with the brand a ton and they care so much for their employees, their content creators, and more importantly, the planet. They’re making effective skincare accessible (sold at Target) and their packaging is so aesthetically pleasing.

My absolute favorites from them are the Rosewater Toner and the Texture Refining Cream.

SheFly

You may have seen a viral video or two this year talking about SheFly’s revolutionary outdoor pants. If not, here’s a rundown. SheFly is a women-founded company allowing women to easily use the bathroom in the great outdoors without taking off their pants. They’re making the outdoors more accessible for everyone, and I truly believe the more time you spend in nature, the more you’ll work to protect it.

kinfield

Kinfield makes clean, vegan, responsibly sourced outdoor skin products that really work- they’re even third-party tested. Every product is made with eco-conscious materials and suppliers, then sent off in recyclable packaging. Kinfield is a member of 1% for the Planet and offset their carbon footprint!

OLIPOP

It wasn’t until 2020 that I decided to end my two-sodas-a-day habit. I tried OLIPOP as a replacement, hoping it would at least satisfy the craving, but oh boy, was it good. OLIPOP drinks come in amazing flavors made up of prebiotics, fiber, and other vegan botanicals rather than piles of sugar and caffeine. When I need a bubbly fix, these are my go-to every time.

Youth to the People

Youth to the People is a skincare brand making pro-grade vegan products out of superfoods! Using local suppliers, ocean-safe ingredients, glass bottles, and recyclable packaging, they are committed to sustainability. By 2024, Youth to the People will have donated $1 million to nonprofit organizations in the climate space and they’ll be net zero by 2025.

Rent-a-Romper

I’ve learned with my niece that kids grow out of clothing SO quickly. It can get expensive and wasteful in no time. Rent-a-Romper is a clothing rental membership that offers a more sustainable solution by letting you swap clothing as your child outgrows it! My niece already has more style than me, so it’s such an easy and thoughtful gift for my sister-in-law.

Rent-a-Romper has super affordable subscription packages that let you choose to gift either 3 or 6 months at a time. Everything comes in a reusable shipping kit and saves clothing from the landfill by keeping it in circulation. Use my code IMPACTFORGOOD for 10% off a gift package!

Activist Skincare

Since we’re all skincare girlies now, let me introduce you to Activist Skincare. Activist Skincare is a small but mighty brand based out of southern California that has a mission to bring refillable skincare products to all. Their refill pouches reduce CO2 emissions by 99% and plastic waste by 75% compared to recycling glass and they have a skincare test you can take to get the right skincare products here! The ingredients are great, the scents are amazing, and you buy the glass bottles and then fill them up for years.

I love their brand so much and you can get 50% off the Trial Kit with code TRYACTIVIST

Mejuri

If you’re looking for jewelry made with craftsmanship and quality, Mejuri’s your brand, and believe it or not, it won’t break your budget. They are committed to 100% traceability of every product and aim to minimize the environmental impacts through responsible sourcing and manufacturing. 80% of their gold is recycled, and the other 20% is sustainably mined.

trestique

Makeup designed to make you feel good and inspire more conscious consumption? I’m in. Trestique created the first zero-waste, refillable makeup brand, and each of their vegan products serve two functions so you can buy less.
