Sustainable Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again- another sustainable gift guide! As I’ve said before, it’s funny to me writing these because I’ve never been big on giving gifts. Houston and I have been together for 6 years and have only gotten each other gifts ONCE on Christmas. The thing is he’s a musician, so he loves buying gear and I love to travel, so our gift to each other every year is to just save for the things we really want to do- own guitars and buy plane tickets. BUT for our families, we do write detailed Christmas lists so we can help support the small, sustainable businesses that we love!

All of that being said, this is NOT a post trying to convince you to buy things you don’t need or to spend over your means. I’m a minimalist at heart and encourage you to give gifts that truly add value to others’ lives and if you do that, buy gifts that don’t go over your budget. I’m all for giving experiences, homemade gifts, plants, etc. And for when you give those store-bought gifts, here are some small, ethical, and sustainable companies that I LOVE. Okay, let’s get into it!

TenTree

TenTree is a sustainable & ethical clothing brand that plants TEN trees with every order. I’ve worn their clothes for years - they're comfortable, cute, and made of sustainable materials. They have gifts for men, women, kids, and have some great stocking stuffers as well!

KindHumans

For your friends and family that are trying to live more sustainably, KindHumans is a one-stop-shop for healthy, eco-friendly products. From kitchen supplies to self-care, to laundry to camping supplies, KindHumans has an amazing selection to help you live a more sustainable life. They’re also B Corp certified and a member of 1% for the planet.

JOI

Joi is a sustainable plant milk company designed to reduce food and packaging waste and their oat milk concentrate is amazing. You receive their oat milk concentrate in a compostable pouch, and then you add the water to make your own oat milk! I think this is such a cool idea and a creative way to reduce waste.

Tru Earth

As much as I love sustainable products, we want them to be convenient, right? Well, Tru Earth gives us exactly that. Tru Earth has concentrated premeasured laundry trips that go right into the washing machine for clothes! It not only takes out measuring detergent from the equation, but it takes out those big plastic laundry jugs as well.

Blendily

Blendily is a women-owned, zero waste company focused on giving you the best self-care experience from head to toe. Basically, they are trying to be as sustainable as self-care companies can get. They support local farms that cultivate and care for the land they harvest from, and when they can’t buy locally, they make sure the ingredients they buy are certified organic. The products are beautiful and you can use my code IMPACT15 for 15% off!

Adopt a Whale!!

For those who have been following me for a while, you know this is my FAVORITE tradition. In true minimalist spirit, every Christmas my mom donates to whales.org in my honor. I love receiving a gift that is contributing to something bigger than myself. WDC has an “Adopt a Whale” program, and every year my mom renews my adoption for a whale named Midnight.

Le Bon Shoppe Socks

I know we all love receiving socks for Christmas, and to me, Le Bon Shoppe’s socks are the very best. With a focus on organic materials and slow fashion, Le Bon socks and designed to be beautiful and last for years to come.

Homesick Candles

I know we all love getting candles for the holidays, and Homesick Candles and the BEST. There are all different scents with all different names that remind you of people, places, and the memories you hold close. I love this idea because say you had an amazing ski trip with your family, you could gift your sister-in-law the “ski trip” candle to remind her of the family vacation. They’re also in beautiful glass containers that can be reused when the candle burns out.

Cocokind

Quarantine has made me fall in love with skincare, and Cocokind is one of my FAVS. First off I’ve worked with the brand a ton this year and they care so much for their employees, their influencers, and more importantly, the planet. They’re making effective skincare accessible (sold at Target) and their packaging is so aesthetically pleasing.

My absolute favorites from them are the Rosewater Toner and the Texture Refining Cream.

Bite

I’ve been a huge fan of Bite Toothpaste Bits for a long time now. This was actually the first thing I bought to live a more sustainable lifestyle! Bite for me started as a way to be a better steward of the earth, and now my love continues to grow for them because of the excellence that their product has and their new addition of nHAP (which is a fluoride alternative).

All of their flavors are amazing, but trust me, the berry flavor just hits different. Use my code IMPACTFORGOOD15 for 15% off!

Girlfriend Collective

If you haven’t tried Girlfriend’s activewear or loungewear yet, let me be the first to say that they are worth ALL the hype. For those who have never heard of them, their activewear is made of recycled water bottles and they’re well known for radical inclusivity and keeping the environment their #1 priority. Seriously, their stuff is incredible.

Ana Luisa

For those who like receiving quality jewelry for Christmas, Ana Luisa has you covered. They’re ethical, sustainable, and their pieces are AMAZING. I got a pair of gold hoops for Christmas last year from them and I’ve worn them every day for a whole year now.

SodaStream

This is another thing that changed the game for me. Growing up I’ve always been obsessed with sodas (I would drink at LEAST 2 a day), and at the beginning of 2020, I decided I wanted to beat the habit. We already had a SodaStream because of Houston’s love for sparkling water, but then I started using it too to hopefully break my addiction to soda.

I am now obsessed with sparkling water and not only has it broken my bad habit of drinking a lot of soda, I’m also saving soooo much waste and money because I don’t have to buy packaged drinks any more! This is one of those products that I have tried to convince so many different friends to get because of how much I love it.

Teva

Teva isn’t a small brand by ANY means, but their sustainability initiatives have been amazing this year. I’ve been a fan of Teva for YEARS- they’ve always been my go-to for sandals and camping shoes, so I was so excited to see this. They have so many cute pairs of shoes, but my personal favorite right now is their reEmber collection which is their camping shoes made of recycled water bottles. I have a pair and get compliments on them all the time and they’re sooo comfortable.
